VideoStudio X This update includes: New native support for videos captured in portrait orientation—vertical videos can be edited without converting to landscape orientation. You bet. CorelDraw is just so much better at so many things, the few areas it falls behind, for me, aren’t nearly worth a change. But with Painter, the situation is reversed.
I find myself fighting the program more than creating with it, and customizing the interface seems more defensive than forward-looking. I’m to often feel I’m getting the program to a basic, usable level, rather than setting up to really supercharge my productivity. My point before was simply that Painter bills itself as a natural media simulator. But look at what that means. As a traditional artist, I trained, when you get right down to it, to apply pigmented pastes and liquids to a surface using hairs on a stick.
I learned how to leave marks on a surface by rubbing it with something that leaves a trails of material behind. My point is that, as an artist, my primary job is to create the vision in my imagination, not continuously recreate the wheel.
I have ground pigment, and mixed in binders and mediums in order to create different paints from scratch, but starting from standardized tubes is just so much easier.
I have boiled rabbit skin in order to make gesso, but buying premade gesso is simpler and less gross. So, sure, have options to alter the tools as desired. But Painter is leaning more and more on the user continuously referring back to deeper levels of obscure settings that have only vague real-world counterparts. My UI now has a dozen panels nested to one side, each of which has a half-dozen controls.
And if I forget what a control does, the pop-up Tooltip just repeats the name of the control, rather than any sort of explanation. That is inexcusable. Maybe it’s a matter of keeping their metaphors straight. What real-world counterparts do resaturation, well, and dozens of others have? Not just a clear explanation of what the control does, but a mental connection relating the control to some real-world change an artist might make to their tool, medium, surface, or technique to get a similar result.
Perhaps the big change needs to be one of naming and documentation. I agree Ron. I think there are several folks on this forum that would make excellent Painter Masters. I hope we see folks applying.
Had no problem taking screenshots, but even though I didn’t click “close”, since I was trying to find a solution, it closed anyways about half an hour later. I do apologize in advance if this is an easy solution or I’m giving too much meaningless detail. I couldn’t find a solution on my own. You mention that the program is pretty old, so I am wondering if you have downloaded and installed the hot fix 1 for Painter Essentials 5.
The hot fix is for Windows, so if you are on a Mac, it will not help. I haven’t seen this issue before and the hot fix isn’t for this particular issue, but it may fix it anyway. A window will open with a number on the left about middle way down. The number should be 5. If it isn’t, then go to the following site and download and install the hot fix. This optional update provides users with locally-stored Help files, allowing access to Help when no Internet connection is available.
Release Notes. Important: This update might affect workspace customizations. Please note that this cumulative update includes all the features and improvements from previous updates and hotfixes. This update improves the stability and performance of PaintShop Pro and includes the following changes:. If only one service is selected in the Service list, and you still experience the problem, the selected service causes the problem. Go to step 6.
If no service causes this problem, go to step 4. If no startup item causes this problem, a Microsoft service most likely causes the problem.
To determine which Microsoft service may be causing the problem, repeat step 1 and step 2 without selecting the Hide all Microsoft services check box in either step. If the problem still occurs, repeat step 1 and step 4. In step 4, click to clear half of the check boxes that you originally selected in the Startup Item list. If the problem does not occur, repeat step 1 and step 4. In step 4, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the Startup Item list.
If only one startup item is selected in the Startup Item list, and you still experience the problem, the startup item that is selected in the list is the service that is causing the problem.
After you determine the startup item or the service that causes the problem, contact the program manufacturer to determine whether the problem can be resolved. Or, run the System Configuration utility, and then click to clear the check box for the problem item. Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to boot to normal startup.
